Free gutter guard quote

Tell us what is overhanging the house. Big maples or oaks make guards worth it. An open yard does not.

How Soon Do You Need Our Services?

No pressure, no obligation. We never share your details.

Micro-mesh where it fits

The design that genuinely works. Fine stainless over a rigid frame, fitted to the gutter you have.

We will not fit inserts

Foam and brush fill with silt and become the blockage. We take more out than we put in.

Told when to skip them

No mature trees overhead and guards are a cost with very little return. We will say so.

The Problem

Will guards mean you never clean the gutters again?

No. They turn an annual job into a three-year one, and anyone promising more is overselling.

A guard stops leaves, twigs and seed pods. What it will not stop is the fine grit washing off the shingles above, which settles in the bottom of the run regardless, so flushing never disappears entirely. Guards genuinely pay on houses that would otherwise need clearing twice a year. That means anything standing under big maples or oaks, which is most of the older streets in this county.

  • Honest about what still needs doing afterwards
  • Micro-mesh where it is worth it, nothing where it is not
  • We will not fit foam or brush inserts
Gutter Guards in Dayton

Why Us

Fewer trips up the ladder

That is a real benefit under seventy-year-old trees and a waste of money on an open lot. Which of the two you have determines whether we recommend them at all.

01

Micro-mesh works best

Fine stainless over a rigid frame. The most effective and the most expensive. It is what we fit when someone wants the problem substantially gone.

02

Inserts are what we remove

Foam and brush sit down inside the gutter and gradually fill with fine debris until they are the blockage they were fitted to prevent.

03

Guards do not stop ice

With 23 inches of snow a year, a guard is one more surface for a dam to build on. If your gutters overflow now, a guard will only hide the real fault.

The Difference

The honest case for and against

Under seventy-year-old maples, guards turn a job you do twice a year into one you do every few years, and they pay for themselves in ladder time alone. On an open lot with nothing overhanging the roof, they are an expense that saves an afternoon a year.

They also do not eliminate maintenance, whatever the brochure says. Fine grit washes off the shingles above and settles in the gutter whatever is covering it. The guard has to come off when that eventually needs washing out.

The heavily treed older streets of Englewood are exactly where guards earn their money, and we fit a lot of them there.

How It Works

How guards get specified and fitted

Half a day, and it starts with what is actually overhead.

  1. 1

    We look at your trees

Species and proximity, because pine needles defeat designs that handle maple leaves perfectly well.

  2. 2

    The gutter gets checked first

Guards on a run that is pitched wrong or already sagging just conceal the real fault from you.

  3. 3

    Fitted to the existing run

Mesh secured to the gutter and under the shingle course where the profile allows it.

  4. 4

    Flushed and demonstrated

Water run over the roof so you can see what carries into the gutter and what carries over.

Reviews

What Dayton homeowners say

4.9 average from 38 reviews
We had a leak over the back bedroom for almost two years and kept putting a bucket under it. The team found the problem in about ten minutes. It turned out to be the flashing around the chimney, not the shingles. They fixed it that same afternoon. I wish we had called sooner.

We had a full tear-off on our 1950s ranch. The crew arrived at 7 every morning and finished the job in three days. They even swept the entire driveway with a magnetic roller so our kids wouldn't pick up any nails. The final price was exactly what we were quoted.

After the hail last June, our insurance company questioned whether the damage was from the storm or simply the age of the roof. The team inspected everything, took detailed photos, and joined the call with our adjuster. The claim was approved. I don't think we would have managed it on our own.

Good work at a fair price. I gave four stars because our job had to be pushed back a week due to rain, and I had already taken the day off. They did call ahead and kept us informed instead of simply not showing up, which I appreciated.

A tree came down on our garage roof at around nine at night. Someone actually answered the phone, which I wasn't expecting. They had the roof tarped before midnight and came back the following week for the permanent repair. Great response when we needed help.

We had new seamless gutters and gutter guards installed around the whole house. They made the gutters right there on site, which I hadn't seen before. We've had two heavy storms since the installation and nothing has overflowed onto the patio. That was exactly the problem we wanted fixed.

I booked a roof inspection expecting to hear that we needed a full replacement because that's what the previous two companies told us. After inspecting it, they said our roof probably had about five years left and told us to call back when the time came. They didn't charge us for the inspection. That honesty is why they'll get the job when we eventually replace it.

This is the second time we've used them. They installed our gutters a couple of years ago, and we recently hired them again for a full roof replacement. We even had the same crew leader both times. The quote was clearly itemized, so we could see exactly what we were paying for, including the wood underneath repairs.

More about Gutter Guards in Dayton

What a guard changes, and what it does not

A guard keeps leaves, twigs and seed pods out of the gutter. It does not keep out the grit that washes off the shingles, or the fine silt that leaves break down into. That still settles in the bottom of the gutter, and it still needs washing out. Anyone selling maintenance-free is overselling.

Where guards earn their money is on houses that would otherwise need clearing twice a year, which around here means anything standing under mature maples or oaks. The ten historic districts are the obvious case, but so is any 1950s street where the trees planted alongside the houses are now seventy years old.

The types, briefly

Three designs cover almost everything on the market, and they are not close in performance.

Micro-mesh

Fine stainless mesh over a rigid frame. The most effective at keeping debris out and the most expensive to fit. It is what we install when someone wants the problem substantially gone rather than reduced.

Reverse curve

Water clings around a curved nose and into the gutter while debris carries on over the edge. Works well until it does not. A heavy summer downpour can overshoot the curve entirely, and pine needles defeat most of them.

Foam and brush inserts

Cheap, sit down inside the gutter, and gradually fill with fine debris until they are the blockage. These are the ones we take back out most often, and we do not fit them.

The honest downsides

They add cost to a gutter that may not need them. They make the gutter harder to clear on the occasions it does need clearing, because the guard has to come off first. Reverse-curve types can overshoot in exactly the kind of storm that drops an inch in twenty minutes. And none of them stop ice, with 23 inches of snow a year, a guard is simply one more surface for an ice dam to build on.

If your gutters overflow now, guards are not the fix and fitting them will hide the real fault. Look at pitch, downspout capacity and the installation detail first. If the gutter itself is failing, that is a repair question. Fitting a guard to a gutter that already leaks at every joint is money in the wrong place. Seamless comes first.

Frequently asked questions

What is the downside to leaf guard gutters?

Three things. They cost more than the clearing they replace on a house without many trees. They have to come off when the gutter does eventually need flushing. And the reverse-curve designs can overshoot in heavy rain. None of that makes them a bad buy under mature trees. It makes them a considered one rather than an automatic one.

What is the average price to have gutter guards installed?

Priced by the foot on top of the gutter itself, and the spread between a foam insert and a micro-mesh system runs to several times over. We quote it as an option alongside gutter work, rather than as a separate visit. Most of the cost is having someone on a ladder around the whole house either way.

What are the worst gutter guards according to Consumer Reports?

We are not going to summarize a review we have not verified, and those ratings move year to year. What we can tell you from our own work is that foam and brush inserts are the ones we take out most often. They fill with fine debris and become the blockage they were fitted to prevent.

Who is the best gutter guard company?

There is no honest answer to that, and anyone who gives you one is selling something. The larger variable is the installation: a mid-range mesh fitted properly on a correctly pitched gutter will outperform a premium system fitted badly. Ask who is doing the work, not only whose product it is.
